Toe nail cutting

Podiatry Routine Treatment is the care of your toe nails including toe nail cutting and also skin conditions, such as corns and callus removal. There are many conditions that affect the toe nails and skin structure / integrity. Archways podiatrist Louise carries out her podiatry routine treatment in her clinic based in Marple.

Toe Nail Structure

  • Nail Plate - the hard part of the nail itself
  • Nail Matrix - the area from which the nail grows
  • Lunula - the white moon shaped area at the base of the nail 
  • Nail Bed - the tissue on which the nail plate lies
  • Nail sulcus / groove - the groove down the side of the nail 

Routine podiatry is very important if you have any of the following

Elderly

Podiatry routine treatment such as nail cutting by our podiatrist Louise is very neccessary in the  Elderly, because these  people experience deterioration in strength, co-ordination, flexibilty or eye sight and may experience difficulty in attending to their own feet, and should seek podiatry care and advice regarding footcare. 

Diabetics can experience changes to the circulation in their feet and nerve function termed neuropathy, it is important that they seek podiatry care and undertake a foot risk assessment recommended by Diabetes UK. Marple Bridge

When you should seek podiatry treatment

  • Podiatry routine treatment by an experienced podiatrist should be sought urgently when :-
  • You notice any changes in the colour or shape in any of your toenails
  • A toenail starts digging into the side or becomes an ingrown toenail
  • Redness, pain or swelling around any of your toenails
  • Develop a freckle or pigmentation under a toe nail
  • Develop a new mole on your foot, dark in colour or bleeds easily
  • Bleeding or discharge from under the foot
  • Painful hard cracked skin
  • Painful corns
  • Thick hard skin 
  • Unusual skin rashes on your feet 
  • Itchy scaly skin blisters and splits in between the toes

NEW PATIENT ASSESSMENTS

Podiatry Treatments also include a new patient assessment in our Marple clinic.


 If you are a new patient you will be booked in for an hour. Louise will take a full medical history and make a note of your medication. Your problem will be discussed, then a treatment plan provided.


 If you are assessed as routine podiatry patient you will receive treatment the same day. In a lot of cases you will have a vascular and neurological assessment as well, to check your nerve and vascular stasis to your legs and feet.


If your problem is foot and ankle pain only, you will also be booked in for an hour, and will be assessed at the appointment and treatment will be initiated, follow up appointments arranged depending on your needs .


Children's assessments are also an hour and Biomechanical one hour, an exercise plan will usually be discussed and a rehabilitation programme e-mailed for you to complete.
